Franschhoek
Idyllically situated in the Cape Winelands, this peaceful country retreat is one of the oldest towns in South Africa. The once sleepy village was named Franschhoek, meaning ‘French Corner’ as it was founded by French Huguenots. The fertile valley of Franschhoek boasts a rich heritage showcased at the fascinating Huguenot Memorial Museum and the Cape Dutch architecture in much of the village remains remarkably well preserved.
Visitors can explore the area’s many world-class wine estates and impressive range of excellent restaurants or simply browse the quaint, upmarket boutiques strewn along the town’s lovely tree-lined avenues.
Durban | Umhlanga
With its beautiful beaches, lively wining and dining scene, and rich cultural heritage, Durban is South Africa’s third-largest city and KwaZulu Natal’s tourist hub. Swimming and surfing are rated the best of any major city across the world and because of the sub-tropical climate the water is warm all year round.
Known as the Golden Mile, this stretch of beaches and amusement parks is Durban’s major attraction with the recently developed UShaka Marine World at the southern end providing a world-class aquarium and other entertainment. Visitors can look forward to an array of wonderful activities including strolling along the beachfront promenade, visiting the Durban Botanical Gardens and exploring the many Asian and Indian markets.
Manyoni Private Game Reserve
Resting in the Msunduzi Valley in the heart of Zululand, the Manyoni Private Game Reserve lies in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal. It boasts excellent game viewing opportunities, rich cultural traditions, and significant conservation efforts. It was established when a group of private landowners partnered with the WWF and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife to remove all internal fences and today it stretches over 23,000 hectares of magnificent African bushveld.
This private reserve is home to a wide selection of wildlife including a variety of endangered species and the world-renowned ‘Big Five’.
